Might as well maximize those benefits if you're going to spend the moolah, either way? Here's a good reason to sign up for an Uber One membership if you have a long weekend trip planned.
Car rentals are more expensive than ever, and it doesn't always make sense to deal with parking and gas. If you're going to be Ubering the whole entire time, it may just make sense to sign up for a temporary, monthly Uber One membership.
The good news is that if you think you will spend at least $166 on Uber rides, an Uber One membership will work in your favor. Considering a ride to JFK from my house costs around $80, it won't take long to break even.
On a recent four-day Detroit trip, it didn't take us long to reach the threshold. In total, we spent $278 on Uber rides, including tips (averaging $70 daily). Though we missed out on the first ride, this resulted in $12.14 in Uber Cash, saving us $2.15.
(The company claims members save on average $27 per month with Uber One, but I suspect the people that are maximizing their savings tend to be using Uber a lot.)
Note: We were somewhat sad to find out this seemed to work for trips in the United States only. The Uber Cash benefit didn't work for our France trip to Nice and Côte d'Azur, where we spent €177.46 ($198.92) that went uncredited!
All in all, here are the benefits of having Uber One membership:
- $0 Delivery Fee on eligible food, groceries, and more
- Up to 10% off eligible deliveries and pickup orders
- Earn 6% Uber Cash on eligible rides
- Cancel anytime without fees or penalties
Our definition of breaking even means making up the membership fee. Here's how much you have to spend to break even on Uber One membership:
| Uber One | Uber Rides | UberEats |
| Monthly Price ($9.99) | $166.50 | $99.99 |
| Annual Price ($96) | $1,600 ($133.33/mo) | $960 ($80/mo) |
Might as well make the most of that trip, no?
