If you've ever wondered whether you can bring back everything from the magical wonderland that is the airport duty-free shop-including things that violate the 100mL liquid limit-the answer is that yes, yes you can.
(Apparently, this is a question I've wondered before, though we are going to answer it more clearly this time.)
As long as the goods packed stored in a clear, secured bag and the receipt is available, you're home-free for customs and to bring it onboard the plane. The airport duty-free shop is truly an extraordinary place.
Not all of us like to check-in, and let's face it, international baggage allowances aren't what they used to be.
Luckily, the airport does a good, wonderful and often incredible job of stocking up on the things you may actually want. No, you're not the first person in the world wanting to bring back rosé and a jar of mustard from the south of France.
(This has been my experience with Peruvian piscos, Icelandic salts and even Turkish delights, plus there's no VAT refund hassles to deal with.)
Straight from the TSA website:
[Travelers] may carry duty-free liquids in secure, tamper-evident bags, more than 3.4 oz or 100 ml in a carry-on bag if:
- The duty free liquids were purchased internationally and you are traveling to the United States with a connecting flight.
- The liquids are packed in a transparent, secure, tamper-evident bag by the retailer and do not show signs of tampering when presented to TSA for screening.
- The original receipt for the liquids is present and the purchase was made within 48 hours.
The most important thing here is that the duty-free shop must pack the souvenirs for you.
Priorities!
