Talk about a breath of fresh air.
After many years, it is now possible to see the total Airbnb price (before taxes) before booking. Though flight searches have long defaulted to this user-friendly view to some extent, this hasn't been the default for the vacation rental industry since it began.
Back in November, the platform announced that it planned to slowly roll out this feature, and somewhat made it live in December. Though it isn't the default view, it is possible to enable it ahead of time.
(To be clear, though it doesn't include taxes, it does include all the ancillary fees; so, it's a step in the right direction!)
Straight from the horse's mouth:
Total price will include all fees before taxes and be shown in search results, as well as on the map, filter, and listing page. Before confirming their booking, guests can still view a full price breakdown that shows Airbnb’s service fee, discounts, and taxes.
This new feature on the platform removes what before was often the biggest headache of booking on Airbnb: One particular listing could be "cheaper" but actually end up being more expensive than another property because of fees.
Fees could include anything from Airbnb service fees, cleaning fees to all the other random things like sheets that hosts often charge to cover their cost of hosting.
(It could be a tactic to make a "cheaper" property more attractive to travelers, but then make up for it at booking.)
How to enable Airbnb's total prices view
It is pretty simple.
Luckily, it can be enabled on the front page! However, don't miss it: It is right on top.
It can be enabled on the front page at the top.
Thankfully, it can also be enabled on a toggle while searching in the search bar.
It can also be enabled on the toggle while searching. Voila.
Hopefully, in a few months, when the rollout is complete, none of this will be needed anymore!
