Take an Uncrustable for that Next Airport Adventure?

    Published/Updated: Jul 19, 2026 · Erica Ho · 1 minute read

No, they just aren't for toddlers! If you're sick of a protein bar-and who isn't-maybe take a cue (or snack) from the kids around you. They keep us young... I think.

Produced from Smuckers', Uncrustables are basically pocket peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Though they make a frequent appearance in lunchboxes, they're also perfectly handheld one-stop, low-mess fueling shops.

No more $10 airport bananas in your future! They also happen to be filling enough to get you through to your next meal without crashing. Essentially, they're the perfect snack-meal.

My epiphany happened during a store run while bouncing between different places with unpredictable kitchen solutions. One day, I finally looked in the freezer aisle, for a low-prep meal, and have been hooked since.

Each sandwich is about 320 calories, and there is a little carb, a little jelly, a little protein. It's also healthy enough to not feel like sh*t, and processed enough that they feel like an indulgence. 😅

Ever since then, I love bringing them to work (to steer clear of lunch takeout), to the gym (to avoid crashing after), and to the airport (for not spending $10 on a yogurt).

These mini-meals do come frozen, and it is recommended to spend at least 30 to 60 minutes thawing them at room temperature. Our methodology and results have been far less scientific and we just toss them in our bag straight out of the freezer.

(Thirty minutes doesn't seem to be enough, though they always seem to defrost perfectly in time for that mid-afternoon snack or for that airport gate hankering!)

They're also pretty economical: The 4-pack at Target costs $4.19  ($1.05 per sandwich), while a 18-pack at Costco costs $15.84 (88¢ per sandwich). (Please keep in mind prices may very depending on location and platform.)

The one we stock up on the one the most are the peanut butter and grape jelly variety, primarily because those are what are sold at Costco.

That's eighty cents of joy that can prevent you from spending $15 on lunch; besides, there is nothing wrong with feeding the inner toddler in you when the hanger monster strikes!
