How To Disguise More Carry-On Baggage in a Brown Paper Bag

    Published/Updated: Jul 28, 2026 · Erica Ho · Under a minute read

If you are running out of space to bring stuff onboard a place, consider this sly trick.

Most passengers are only allowed a carry-on and a personal bag - that is, unless you're flying basic economy on United or JetBlue. Sometimes, that's just not enough, and it is possible to get away with *a little more* by hiding it in your lunch.

It's a little sneaky, though it's possible to get away with more allowance by whatever doesn't fit in a brown paper bag. The key here is that it needs to look like a lunch, or an overpriced salad you bought back from the airport food court.

Security doesn't care-it is the airline staff that will enforce baggage rules.

(Don't overstuff the bag! It will rip. Line it with a plastic bag underneath for more authenticity. 😂 This is for those one or two items you weren't able to smush in the main bag.)

For what it's worth, there's always food present as well. Not just to keep up appearances, but because I get hangry.
