Starbucks Restrooms Are Now Open to Everyone (in the U.S.)

    Published/Updated: Jul 14, 2025 · Erica Ho · Under a minute read

Tourists, rejoice. No more wondering where to make a bathroom pit stop.

On Saturday, the Wall Street Journal reported that Starbucks is now allowing anyone to use the restroom, regardless whether they make a purchase or not. So far, it seems like this policy will only apply to its U.S.-based stores, and not the rest of its stores around the world.

(Making it a global standard would definitely get me excited, since in some other countries around the world, using the bathroom requires an entry fee. Personally, large, fancy hotels are my personal favorite for a break.)

    The article clarifies further:

The company said at the time that it had different guidelines for its 28,000 stores globally, depending on the market. The new policy will apply to its more than 8,000 U.S. company-operated cafes.

The recent change is related to some discrimination brouhaha which is beyond the scope of this article, so feel free to read the original article for more details.

By the way, guess where this article is being written from.
